2 real life examples of how USW protected oil workers

We’ll keep this one short because we’ve got a lot going on behind the scenes. Here’s two quick examples from the very recent past how USW (the union we’re signing with) helped protect guys exactly like us:
Now keep in mind- these aren’t random examples of “great union wins” cherry-picked from a google search- one example is from our North Slope neighbors, WOA, who are represented by the same union we’re dealing with. And the second example is from a ConocoPhillips owned facility who is also represented by the same union. As this fight heats up, management is going to pull up 10 examples of unions messing up- Ask them 2 questions:
What specific union are you talking about? & When was this?
Do you think I give a flying fuck if Teamsters dumped some cement-shoe’d dude in the NYC East River a hundred years ago? I’m not a Teamster and this isn’t 1930 NYC. If they can’t provide recent relevant examples of “mmmmhhh Union bad”, then they should keep their lying mouths shut.
Example #1:
“Hey, I reached out to some dudes at Hilcorp WOA asking about how COVID and mandatory vaccines were dealt with there- I know a lot of guys here are still bitter about ConocoPhillips slapping us with the 'mandatory vaccines or losing your job' crap."
This was WOA’s response:
“We were not forced to take vaccinations....at some point it became easier to get to work if you were vaccinated, so for out of staters it made it where you didn't have to leave security, but nobody was forced. We had to adhere to some stupid shit, like spend 2 weeks in quarantine prior to coming to work (but that was a state mandate not company). We were in almost daily conversations with the Company and were able to stave off some crazy talk, and in the end it was just mostly federal and state rules we had to follow.”
Example #2:
We also just found out that the ConocoPhillips Montney Facilities that unionized in 2023 lost exactly ZERO employees during this global wide RIF. The field operators in the same area (who are not union) lost something like 15% of their local COP employees, who were replaced by COP guys forcefully relocated from other COP Canada assets.
Almost half the field operator positions are now CWs. Take a guess how many positions in the Union facility are CW’s? ZERO.
Still not convinced? The ENTIRE ConocoPhillips Canada workforce took a 3% pay cut with this re-org…. Except the union guys, their contract has guaranteed yearly raises between 3-4%.
