We’re seeking interest from operators & maintenance people from Kuparuk/Alpine/Willow for inclusion on the bargaining committees-
If this is something you’re interested in please reach out to us- but first- please read a little about the process and expectations:
At the bargaining table, we're not just represented by union officials, we're also represented by our bargaining committee. This committee is made up of rank-and-file members (our coworkers) from a wide variety of departments, ideally 4 members representing both maintenance and operations for both Kuparuk and Alpine and 2 alternates. Willow will have its own team.
Our bargaining committee’s primary goal is to negotiate the best possible contract for all members. They are our trusted coworkers, who will be our voice at the bargaining table, and no decision about our contract will be made without their approval.
Responsibilities include:
Gaining insight into members’ priorities and concerns
Researching and fact-finding
Establishing primary bargaining goals
Working with Union Reps to formulate and finalize contract proposals
Deciding which proposals to accept, modify or reject
Attending all negotiation meetings
Update membership when appropriate via the communications team
These team members will need to commit to this position for the duration of the initial contract negotiation, which could be a substantial time period, many, many months. There would be team meetings held in addition to the negotiations. While we still don't know the time frame of the negotiations, there will probably be several blocks of days, over several months when these negotiations take place, presumably in Anchorage.
With regards to pay: All individuals on the bargaining committee will be reimbursed for any lost work time/wages if negotiations fall on their work week but will have to volunteer their time for meetings/negotiations that fall outside of their normal working schedule. Travel expenses related to the meetings in Anchorage will be covered. This is not a position to be taken lightly- we're looking for articulate, committed, selfless individuals that have the best interest of the group- as a whole- in mind. This is a massive responsibility but is also your best chance to ensure the needs of your coworkers are met- We need the guys that understand teamwork to step up.
If you believe you would be a good fit for this position or would like more information please email us at info@UnionOnTheNorthSlope.org reach us "through the grapevine".... on a related note- we'll be upgrading our communications platforms soon to make private communications easier (sorry Britt, no more spying for you)- stay tuned.
