We posted this last month, but take a moment and re-read it. Actually read our VP's words from a year ago, hear the sincerity in them, then reflect on how this last year went. Remember- They will promise us ANYTHING to keep us from going Union. Don't believe the lies.
You know what? I was going to post an article about Union Busting Tactics- but I have something better-go to the "Facts and Myths" webpage on the menu and read up on "Union Busting Tactics"- then read VP ED’s “My Commitment to You” email that he sent us almost exactly 1 year ago. If you have ANY DOUBTS about who we’re dealing with or how full of shit they are, I believe this letter should clear things up. The text of the letter is below-
Ladies and Gents here it is- Mr Ed’s own words:
“Hi All
We recognize this year has had a large impact on our processes and procedures. Given all the changes, we understand that employees have been engaging in conversations about unionization, and I wanted to share some initial thoughts.
First and most importantly, I want to thank those of you who have voiced your opinions or concerns. We believe deeply in the value of communication, and I am committed to doubling our efforts in this space. Moving forward, I want to ensure that you’re not only informed, but that you have the opportunity to contribute to and influence our joint mission and journey of delivering Alaska’s resources.
A series of listening sessions will be scheduled at Kuparuk and Alpine. The schedule will be communicated soon. In the meantime, if there are any questions, please contact your supervisor.
As part of my commitment to transparency, we will be sharing tools and materials to help provide information about unionization, which we know comes with its own set of complex rules and language. The decision to unionize or not is an important one, and our goal is to provide you with information to make an informed decision.
I do have an ask for you: please continue to raise any questions, thoughts and concerns to your supervisor and to Company leadership. We always are looking for ways to promote feedback and we will continue to make every effort to be good listeners as well as communicators about subjects that matter to all of us.
I firmly believe that the best path forward is one where we have a direct line of communication with you about policies, wages, benefits and other workplace conditions. If a union is formed, you will lose your individual voice and ability to communicate without an intermediary. Our direct relationship allows us to collaborate with you, gather feedback from you and implement positive solutions quickly and efficiently.
Attached for your reference is a document that lists some frequently asked questions about unions. ……blah blah blah.
Regards,
Ed."
Now let me ask you– how did he “thank” those people that voiced their concerns?
Was this last month’s shake up “open and transparent”?
This is my favorite line: “If a union is formed, you will lose your individual voice and ability to communicate without an intermediary.” How do you feel about your “individual voice” right now? Do you feel like your ‘voice’ will lead to “positive solutions quickly and efficiently”?
What tactics did we see here? They sweet-talked us, stalled us, pulled the “we’re a family and we care” card. Definitely some promises about doing better (Workforce Engagement anyone?)… oh! And they are SUCH great and caring management they are even going to ‘give’ us information about unions… how thoughtful of them.
Next we’ll dive into his awesome FAQ’s about Unions. Stay strong- and don’t fall for the lies…. again. Learn the full facts behind his bullshit Union FAQ's in Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
