Change- Who controls it? Us or them?

Isn't it crazy how all of a sudden the company realized some of the changes they made ‘might not be the right move’ and how they'd ‘really like to fix this issue’ but ‘we can't because of the union drive’. Isn't it wild how all of a sudden we've be reassigned management that understands these fields and is willing to listen to us rather than say stupid shit like “well sometimes you'll just have to consider other job options”.
What changed? What changed from 2 months ago when management had zero desire to hear anything from us and was telling us to our faces “you're overpaid by 20% and we're correcting that.” Now suddenly “its a simple misunderstanding, we have no intentions to get you to 100%, we'll keep you at 120%, it was a misunderstanding.”
What changed?
You know the answer, WE changed. YOU and I became US, and now the company is shitting their pants because we came together into US. All this talk about ‘we'd fix it if the union wasn't in the way’ is bullshit. THE COMPANY is the one that broke it in the first place. The union isn't the reason your premiums got cut, the union isn't the reason your experienced co-workers got fired and replaced with cheap labor, the union didn't scrap ½ your paid holidays, management did that.
Would management be reasonable if the union axe wasn't hanging over their heads? Maybe now that we have some different bosses they actually might be reasonable, but remember the ONLY reason we have those bosses is because of that union axe. As soon as that axe is put down and our trusted bosses move on to bigger and better things then what? Do you trust HR? Do you trust the SAME people that LIED TO YOUR FACE “no, no, no, going to work day won't change anything about your pay” do you trust them to not screw you over as soon as New Boss and Nice Boss are replaced? I'll put it this way: if you trust the same HR dept that lied to you before to NOT lie to you again then you really are a dumb monkey that doesn't deserve bananas.
Speaking of HR and their integrity- how'd you like their little “we're keeping you at 120%” presentation? That soothed you right? 120% sounds a lot better than 100%. But stop and examine what 100% and 120%means. 100% or 120% of what? 100% of whatever the hell they want. THEY decide when they do a ‘survey of our peers’. THEY decide who our peers are. THEY decide what the increase increment in the “middle pay box” is going to be. THEY decide if you are a top performer or an under performer. THEY control every single aspect of your future pay, and they can change it at any time. Hell, their legal department even made them put it on one of the slides (a slide they skipped in the presentation BTW) but the devil is in the details and fine print. And those details literally say “nothing in this document between ConocoPhillips and blah blah blah….[COP] reserves the right to amend, change or terminate the plans [etc] ….at any time…at its sole discretion.” Go back and read it if you doubt us, its in the slides deck they sent to your email about a week ago.
So what stops them from deciding that AES electricians aren't your “peers” for the next survey? Or removing Santos from the survey group? Maybe they'll decide that ‘your peers’ are operators in Midland. What keeps them from deciding “the middle box” shouldn't just get a 0.25% pay increase? Nothing is tied to the CPI inflation index numbers. There is literally no one determining what YOU are worth other than some HR monkeys that hate your guts. The same people that told you not to contact them without CC'ing your boss, the same people that lied to your face, the same people that told you “there's only 300 of you so you really don't matter.” They would rather spray you with a hose than answer your pay questions.
Lets take the hose away from them.

👏.👏.👏.
We have to become US permanently, to keep the corporates and HR’s at bay.
The USW isn’t going to dictate our terms and how our union conducts itself, nor do they desire to. They’re simply the instrument we use. WE will build this union into something great that will give us peace of mind and security for decades to come.
