Counterpoint- “Unions protect people from getting fired that should get fired.”

Yep, sometimes that does happen, but guess what?  We ALL know current or former coworkers who were fuck-ups or lazy dead weight that didn’t get fired for years because they were buddies with the bosses, or the company didn’t have the balls to do the right thing.  So what does unionizing change?  Your deadweight coworker has been here for 10 years without a union and he'll be here for 10 more with or without a union.... sorry.

But I will tell you one thing it will change-  it will PROTECT people from getting fired for absolutely bullshit reasons-  because of some HR ‘hit list’ or because someone heard that someone heard that so-and-so said something ‘non inclusive’.  It will protect co-workers that get fired for some technicality that violates company rules...(Oh god forbid you had a 5 year old expired medication found in your room when the security nazis are digging through your stuff… better fire that guy!)

Bottom line:  Will a union protect shitty employees sometimes?  Yes, but life already isn’t fair, and it's LESS fair as it currently is.
