It's time to sign

This is our moment- its time to sign a Union Authorization Card. This is our ticket to a vote and we need your help. Click here to sign your card or read the really brief FAQ below.

Will Conoco find out I signed? No. Two people within the United Steelworkers Union get sent these cards, then the NLRB (a fed government group) reviews them. ConocoPhillips will never get them. There's another blog post with more details.

Am I eligible to sign? If you are a north slope ConocoPhillips hourly employee, the answer is yes- all Senior Techs/Operators, all Telecom, All mechanics/machinists, all utility operators. There's another blog post with more details.

Why do I have to put my name, phone and email on it? This information is used to by the NLRB to verify that we have enough eligible 'voters'. They check eligibility, they don't send the information to ConocoPhillips.

What happens next? Once we get an overwhelming number of cards signed, the union asks the NLRB to contact ConocoPhillips. ConocoPhillips must then supply a list of all hourly employees and contact information to the union headquarters. We then more forward with a vote.

Can the union really end up being our spokesperson simply by signing a card like Ed's email claimed? Technically, if damn near every employee submitted an A-Card, ConocoPhillips could relent & allow the union to represent us without a vote. That's highly unlikely. But even if that did happen we would still build our own list of demands, vote on our own representatives and be part of bargaining for our own contract. Then we would still need to vote to ratify any collective bargaining agreement that we negotiated with the company. So I guess if that counts as "being our spokesperson simply by signing a card" then yes, Ed is right.

Can they stop our pay raises? Or cancel our bonus? Nope, that's illegal, there's a blog post about it.
