Let's talk about being afraid….

Did you notice that most of the guys that got RIF'd last week were the more vocal pro-union guys? Of course you did, you're no dummy.
Now let me ask you this- WHY?
“Well”, you say, “isn't it obvious? They got RIF'd because they were pro-union.”
No. That's not exactly right….that's partly right but it's a bit bigger than that. Those guys got RIF not because they were pro-union, they got RIF'd because we DON'T have a union.” If we were a union they would still be here- it's that simple.
They got RIF'd because the company could. They got RIF'd because the company fears unions, feared their message and because the company wants YOU to be afraid. They RIF'd them to silence their message and to send a message to you.
The company wants you to be absolutely terrified to speak up, too scared to even hear the dreaded ‘U word’. They are terrified of the U word and they want you terrified of it too.
Fuck them. Fuck their fear mongering. I'm glad they're afraid. They should be afraid, there are hundreds of us and we're starting to connect. Everyday I'm getting texts and calls from people reaching out, nodding in support, or fighting mad, or in deep despair, or simply confused and overwhelmed. You are not alone.
We have the power to determine our destiny. There are things to fear, like what's the next thing the company is going to steal from you. But you don't need to fear unions, or union talk. We're doing this quietly, but we are here, building a critical mass and developing a plan. At some point we will ask for your support- even then you will be able to keep your name hidden from the company every step of the way, so you have no reason to fear talking union or supporting a union. You only have to fear what you will be losing next if you don't talk union.
